Structural Fitters $22-$34/HR + $150/Day Per Diem – Charleston, SC – Submarine Construction

PeopleReady Skilled Trades (PRST) is hiring experienced structural fitters for submarine construction and marine manufacturing work in Charleston, SC. Temp or temp-to-hire, with a relocation package.

Pay: $22-$34/hr depending on experience. Per diem: $150/day for days worked. Day and night shifts available.

The work:

• Fit, align and assemble structural steel and internal framing inside submarine hulls, a lot of it in confined spaces
• Build and fit structural rafts and floating deck assemblies that sit on rubber sound-isolation mounts
• Read the drawings, then measure and mark your parts to spec
• Prep for weld: grinding, beveling and torch cutting, and help the welders with fit-up
• Run or direct lifts with hoists, overhead cranes and rigging
• Check your own assemblies, report anything that doesn't match the drawing, and keep up the production paperwork

You need:

• 2-4 years in structural steel fitting, metal fabrication, shipbuilding or a related industrial field (preferred)
• Experience working in confined spaces and restricted-access areas
• To read engineering drawings, blueprints, fab specs and work instructions
• Solid structural fitting, steel layout, alignment and assembly
• To be good with hand tools, power tools and precision measuring instruments
• Weld prep know-how: grinding, beveling, torch cutting
• Experience with overhead cranes, hoists, rigging and material handling
• Shop math: measurements, fractions, decimals and dimensional calculations
• To hold tight tolerances on complex assemblies

A big plus: submarine or shipbuilding experience, dense internal structural framing, or time on structural rafts, floating decks or vibration-isolation mounts.
