HVAC licensing in Louisiana

There is no Louisiana HVAC worker card to bring — the State Licensing Board for Contractors (LSLBC) licenses the CONTRACTING business by classification. The company credential is one of the best-travelled in the country, and other states say so in their own documents: South Carolina's waiver list accepts Louisiana Statewide Mechanical into its Air Conditioning/Heating classification and Louisiana's industrial-piping class into Pressure & Process Piping; Georgia's Conditioned Air board approves Louisiana's unrestricted exam — making Louisiana Georgia's one live partner while SC and TX sit suspended; Mississippi names the LSLBC among its partners; and Ohio's reciprocity fleet includes Louisiana.

Trade exams sit at the contractor level per classification. One credential-shaped door worth knowing: the LSLBC accepts NASCLA accredited exam scores for commercial general building — portable between member states, though that applies to general building rather than the mechanical classification. Your personal floor is EPA 608.

No apprentice card — no worker card of any kind. Crew experience under a licensed contractor is the path, EPA 608 in your pocket.

Parish and municipal permitting may add obligations — New Orleans in particular — and the local layer was not researched. Call the parish building office before treating the state answer as complete.

The LSLBC licenses the business, by classification, and Louisiana reciprocity operates as trade-exam waivers between contractor boards. An established Louisiana contractor often moves between states more easily than any individual card ever could. The 1099 trap applies: contract directly and the licensing obligation is yours.
