Pipefitter licensing in Idaho

Idaho has no pipefitter card — but do not read that as unlicensed: the plumbing statute itself assigns gas piping, HYDRONIC SYSTEM PIPING, and boilers not subject to Industrial Commission inspection to LICENSED HVAC INDIVIDUALS. So the card a fitter needs on hydronic and boiler work is the Idaho HVAC JOURNEYMAN, and that program publishes no civilian reciprocity — plan on Idaho's route, unless you are a military member, veteran or spouse, whose current out-of-state license transfers with no exam and no fee.

Not established for the HVAC journeyman card — do not start on silence. The supervised lane is HVAC apprentice registration ($10 a year) under a licensed contractor.

The Idaho HVAC journeyman exam on documented experience is the operative gate for folded fitter work (DOPL's program carries the hour standards). Two traps: do NOT try to route through the PLUMBER program — Idaho expressly refuses pipefitting hours toward plumber experience — and INSPECTED boilers are carved out of the HVAC assignment entirely, so on an Industrial Commission-inspected boiler job, confirm the required credentials with DOPL before quoting.
